Flexus – Update

Monday, 30th September, 2013

It’s now roughly 6 months since I wrote my first post about Flexus, a book designed to improve trumpet fundamentals, particularly flexibility. Over the last 6 months I’ve used a 45 minute/ 1 hour daily routine, which I modify every few weeks. Flexus works on slurs, articulation, note bends, pedal tones and interval studies, all of which are dealt with in my routine, except for pedal tones. For some reason, pedals have always loosened me off too much, so I tend to avoid them.

I’m very happy with the results of my Flexus routine and I’m hoping that my progress will continue. I do believe that any daily routine should be modifiable and that every player should remain pragmatic in their approach, but Flexus provides a very useful resource with a wealth of information and exercises.

Try it, I’m sure you will not be disappointed!
